📝 Sample Band 8.5
In today’s globalized world, full-time university students often devote most of their time to academic pursuits, but it is strongly recommended that they also engage in extracurricular activities. I fully agree with this view, as while academic excellence is essential, participating in activities outside the classroom is key to developing well-rounded social skills.
To begin with, a student’s primary responsibility is definitely their studies. Pursuing higher education often requires a substantial financial commitment, which for many families involves significant sacrifices, such as taking out loans or drawing on long-term savings to cover tuition, accommodation, and other expenses. To honor these financial commitments, it is incumbent upon students to dedicate themselves to academic excellence and fully engage in their learning experiences, thereby developing specialized knowledge and critical skills essential for their future careers. This focus on academic success can qualify them for demanding, high-paying jobs, ensuring that the initial investment yields worthwhile returns.
However, extracurricular involvement is equally important in securing decent employment, as it plays a vital role in fostering essential social skills. By participating in clubs and organizations, students have the chance to interact with others in a variety of social contexts, in turn pick up many interpersonal skills. For instance, a student involved in a club’s external relations team may be tasked with securing sponsorships for events, thereby learning the art of persuasion, collaboration and building confidence in presentation. While technical skills are undeniably essential, success also depends on these soft skills, particularly in managerial and leadership roles, for these positions require the ability to motivate and guide others. By cultivating strong interpersonal skills, students can position themselves for higher-paying and more influential positions.
In conclusion, while students must devote sufficient time to their academic success, engaging in extracurricular activities is crucial for developing interpersonal skill.
